4 free & easy ways to boost your energy
You know that feeling of waking up exhausted and drained, EVEN after you’ve had a full night’s sleep?
I sure do, and tons of my friends and clients do as well!
Culturally we are in a state of fight and flight. It’s the “new normal” to be overwhelmed with notifications, information, and an ever-building to-do list.
Allow me to help you press the easy button and simplify your life so you can find the energy to do what you truly want.
I used to struggle with my energy, just like you.
But after years of research, education, and a little bit of trial and error, I discovered a simple system to double my energy. And it costs NOTHING.
I’m sharing 4 simple steps from my coaching program, so you can generate your energy; naturally and easily.
1. Drink up
I know that life gets crazy, and it affects our sleep.
Your mind races and worries, the neighbor’s dog barks at the moon all night or something else disturbs your deep sleep.
No matter what your night’s sleep was like, here’s an easy way to jumpstart your energy and reset your system first thing in the morning.
Before you go to bed, set a full 20-ounce glass of water next to your bathroom sink.
After you wake up, drink that whole glass!
Pretty simple, right? And it’s going to help you HYDRATE your entire system quickly.
Water hydrates your entire system, which is vital for your cell, tissue, and organ regeneration. Keeping your blood at the right consistency helps deliver oxygen to your muscles, which immediately boosts your body’s energy.
Drinking enough water helps keep the enzymes and bacteria in your digestive tract running smoothly and this helps get your bowels moving!! YAY!!
Getting into the habit of eliminating waste first thing in the morning will prevent it from being absorbed into your system throughout the day and give you an instant energy boost.
2. Get fresh
Many of us spend our entire day inside an office or space with air conditioning or heaters that drain our energy and sap our life force.
Even if you are not one of these people and you do spend time outdoors daily, the trick here is to clear your mind, focus your breath and be present with nature.
Leave your phone in the office, leave your To-Do list at home and walk outside with the intention to clear your mind and absorb clean green energy.
Walk around the block and find a park to walk through or a street lined with trees. I’m talking fresh air and preferably sunshine but rain works well too.
Be wholeheartedly IN the natural elements stress-free for ten minutes!
If leaving the office is out of the question, find an open window, sit by it, and breathe in the outside air (even city air is better than fake stuffy office air). Or find a live plant potted in real soil and sit by it and breathe it in for ten minutes, in silence.
Try it for 10 minutes TODAY and I bet you will feel
refreshed, recharged and energized.
Don’t believe me? Ever heard of Forest Bathing or “Shinrin-Yoku” in Japanese?
It literally means quiet walking among the trees and refers to the boost of energy that we as humans receive from the trees in the form of phytoncides (wood essential oils) which induce relaxation and therefore an energy boost.
3. Dance Party
This one is really fun and it’s designed to give you that BOOST to make it through the night after a long day’s work. Ready?
Think of your favorite song or of any kind of music that makes you want to get up and boogie.
Find some private space either in your car on the way home from work or the laundry room while the kids are busy with homework.
Plug your earphones in and boogie like crazy to your favorite song. Or, if you’re like me and my family, we open up our Spotify playlist and blast music through our DOSS soundbox speaker!!
The trick here is to really give yourself permission to LET GO.
You know the old adage, “Dance like nobody’s watching?”
Do it and feel the RUSH of energy surge through your body.
4. Energy Audit
Now, this is the MOST helpful tool of all. This one changed my life dramatically and I teach it to all of my clients!
If you’re a busy person who’s constantly in “DOING MODE”, this tool is ESSENTIAL.
When you’re constantly in doing mode, you increase your stress responses and set your nervous system on HIGH alert: ALL THE TIME!
This doing mode drains all of your precious physiologic stores of energy: mind, body, and soul.
You see, time is a finite resource. There’s a limit to how many hours you can work.
But energy is different. Loehr and Tony Schwartz explain that your energy can be expanded and renewed by establishing specific rituals—behaviors that are intentionally practiced and precisely scheduled, with the goal of making them unconscious and automatic as quickly as possible.
Physical Energy: increase your energy by moving your body more; drinking less alcohol; getting more sleep; daily doses of calming stillness.
Emotional Energy: increase your energy by spending quality time with friends; having an overnight date night without the kids, saying no to anything that’s not valuable to you.
Mental Energy: increase your energy by only checking emails twice a day; reading books that have nothing to do with work; creating long stretches of time for ease and peace.
Spiritual Energy: increase your energy by spending time in nature; doing what nurtures your spirit; meditating; saying 3 things you’re grateful for when you wake up.
Lastly, grab a paper and pen and do your own personal energy audit of your life.
Make a list of all the people, places, and things in your life that FILL you with energy.
Add to the list any habits or rituals you have that energize you.
Next, make a list of all the people, places, and things in your life that DRAIN you of energy.
Add to the list any habits or rituals you have that exhaust you.
Commit to eliminating and or minimizing all of the things that drain your energy.
Fill your life with more of the energy-boosting people, places, and things that make you truly feel vibrant and alive!!
You deserve to feel energized and amazing in this lifetime!
