When was the last time you looked at what makes you happy?

If you said, “I think about this every day; Denise and I have a gratitude practice and often call to mind the aspects of my life that make me happy.”

Celebrate that you’re already deeply aware of and connect to the parts of your life that bring you happiness.

But, if you said, “What do I have to be happy about?” or “I haven’t felt thrilled in a long time,” this Holistic Assessment may help you discover what brings you happiness.

Also, you are not being selfish if you ask the question, “Am I thrilled?”

I hear this a lot from clients.

You deserve to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. You must stop every few months and assess your feelings about your life.

I believe that you deserve to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.


When I do this exercise with a client, we go through these significant areas of life using this visual and the following questions.

Feel free to write in your own “aspects” in your circle; the aspects represent the parts of your life that you find most important and prioritize above all else.

  1. Health
  2. Fitness
  3. Career
  4. Love
  5. Finances
  6. Self-care
  7. Connection
  8. Mindset


Think about your happiness level with each of these eight areas of life. Place a dot inside each slice representing how pleased or displeased you are in that area.

For example: Say you are starting with the “Career” slice and are very happy with your current job. You’d place a dot inside your career slice as close to the outside of the circle as possible.

Alternatively, if you’re very unhappy with how much love you feel, you’d place the dot as close to the circle’s center as possible. See the example below:

Then, you can see what your “circle” will look like once you place your dots accordingly. Once you have your beads, you can trace them around the circle to see how bumpy your “circle” is; it’s incredible how this simple activity can physically show your imbalances.

Now that you see where your imbalances are, it’s time to make a plan of action so you can move forward knowing what steps to take to move towards your goals.


For each aspect of your life, spend some quiet, quality time answering these questions:


What is causing an imbalance in my happiness in this aspect of my life? Please be honest when asking, “Am I thrilled?”

How does this imbalance show up in my daily life?

Which steps could I take to create more happiness within this aspect of my life?

Imagine your life in 5 years when you truly feel happy in all aspects of your life.


Enjoy this transformational process, as it helps you clear and focus on what’s most important in your life. Then you can remove those things, people, or obstacles that stand in the way of your happiness.
